Frequently asked questions

What is a par level?

A par level is the minimum amount of an item you want on the shelf right after a delivery to get you through to the next one — your reorder point plus a safety stock buffer. Order up to par each delivery and you shouldn't run out between drops.

How do I set par for a busy weekend?

Use your weekly usage from a typical busy week (not a quiet one), then bump safety stock to 20–30% for items that go big on Friday/Saturday — wines, steak, brunch staples. If your supplier only delivers once a week, your par needs to cover the whole weekend plus the buffer.

Lead time vs delivery frequency — what is the difference?

Delivery frequency is how often the truck arrives (e.g. 3 times a week = every 2.3 days). Lead time is the gap between placing an order and it landing. For most AU venues with regular suppliers they amount to the same thing, which is why this calculator uses days between deliveries as the lead time.
